About the Artist
Full name: Iyanuoluwa Babalola Artist name: Iyanuoluwa Babalola Signature Studio
yanuoluwa Babalola is a Nigerian Painting Therapeutic Artist and Visual Artist whose practice centers on healing, identity, moral teachings, storytelling, historical memory, and childhood experiences. His works translate personal and collective narratives into expressive visual language that speaks to emotional restora…
tion and cultural continuity. Through layered textures, symbolic imagery, and thoughtful composition, his paintings function as visual stories—bridging past and present, tradition and modern life—while offering viewers space for reflection, healing, and self-discovery.
Rooted in personal heritage, Babalola draws inspiration from Fiditi, Oyo State—historically celebrated as the "Home of Fruits." In many of his portraits, fruits appear as earrings or are intricately woven into the body of the subject, serving as visual markers of place, ancestry, abundance, and belonging. This recurring motif has evolved into a signature element of his practice, transforming familiar objects into symbols of cultural identity and inherited memory.
Another significant feature within his work is the incorporation of Abàjà, the traditional tribal marks historically associated with people from his region. Rather than presenting them merely as physical identifiers, Babalola reinterprets these marks as symbols of history, resilience, lineage, and cultural continuity. Through their presence in his paintings, he seeks to preserve a fading aspect of Yoruba heritage while encouraging conversations about identity, migration, memory, and the ways cultural histories are carried across generations.
His works have been exhibited at Visionary Voice 3.0 (2025), the LIMCAF Regional Exhibition (as a Top 100 Finalist and award recipient), and ExhibitMOSHO 2026 in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Through his evolving practice, Iyanuoluwa continues to use art as a vehicle for healing, storytelling, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
