Adúkẹ́́ Ọlà's work draws from Yoruba naming traditions to examine wealth as an inherent quality rather than a material acquisition. The fruit forms represent abundance, nourishment, and a richness grounded in heritage and self-awareness. As part of the Oríkì Series, this body of work delves into names as vessels of identity and emotional experience. Using acrylic and symbolic portraiture, I encourage viewers to reflect on their own worth and understand that true value originates from within.
Adúkẹ́́ Ọlà was inspired by the realization that many people measure their worth through external achievements, possessions, or validation from others. Rooted in Yoruba naming traditions, the work serves as a reminder that true wealth extends beyond material success. The title, meaning “Beloved Crowned with Wealth,” speaks to the richness found in identity, self-awareness, dignity, and heritage.
Through the symbolism of fruits and abundance, the piece encourages viewers to recognize the value they already possess within themselves. It is a celebration of inner wealth and a reflection on the idea that being cherished, confident, and grounded in one's identity is a form of prosperity. Ultimately, Adúkẹ́́ Ọlà reminds us that our greatest wealth is not what we own, but who we are.
