This work draws inspiration from Yoruba naming traditions and the cultural memory of Fiditi, known as the "Home of Fruits." I explore joy as a state of return rather than pursuit. The figure transforms into a living landscape, with fruits emerging from her, symbolizing nourishment, identity, and the healing found in reconnecting with one's origins. The repeated fruit forms and mango earring further illustrate what we carry and become. Through this piece, I invite viewers to reflect on their own sense of return—emotionally, culturally, or spiritually—and to recognize that joy is ever-present.
Ayọ̀délé was inspired by the belief that joy is not something we constantly chase, but something we can rediscover within ourselves. Rooted in the Yoruba name meaning “Joy Has Come Home,” the work reflects the emotional journey of returning to one's roots, identity, and inner peace.
Drawing from Fiditi’s identity as the “Home of Fruits,” the fruit forms symbolize nourishment, abundance, and healing. The piece encourages viewers to reflect on moments when they have felt disconnected from themselves, their culture, or their sense of belonging.
Through Ayọ̀délé, I hope to remind people that joy is never truly lost—it often waits quietly within us, ready to be rediscovered when we reconnect with who we are and where we come from.
