Artwork story

A staged fine art photograph printed as an archival pigment print on matte cotton rag paper. Set in open water, the work captures a shared moment of freedom, presence, and human connection, exploring how joy can briefly lift the emotional weight of everyday life.

Where We Become Weightless was inspired by the simple moments when life feels lighter in the presence of others. Water became both a physical setting and a metaphor—a place where burdens dissolve, laughter comes naturally, and the body reconnects with freedom. I wanted to explore the idea that joy is not always loud or extraordinary; sometimes it is found in shared silence, play, and the comfort of belonging.
The work explores themes of friendship, presence, renewal, and emotional release. Rather than directing the figures into fixed expressions, I allowed natural movement and interaction to shape the scene, creating a photograph that feels lived rather than performed. Through the interplay of water, light, and the human body, the image invites viewers to remember moments when they, too, felt free from the weight of everyday life.
