"The Gasp" is a charcoal pencil drawing on paper, measuring 113cm by 86cm. The artwork portrays a man suffocated by transparent nylon, struggling for breath. His facial expression conveys a desperate fight for survival. This struggle reflects the daily challenges faced by the average African man, including pressure, hustle, and depression. It symbolizes the quest for hope and freedom from the burdens that suffocate us.
My artistic inspiration emerged during a challenging period of depression, where I felt a profound loss of will and an overwhelming sense of suffocation. This piece encapsulates the essence of that experience.
Titled "the GASP," this work is the first in my new series, THE BREAK OUT SERIES. The theme explores the untold narratives of daily struggles and the will to survive, reflecting the emotional states and pressures faced during such times.
The mediums used include charcoal pencil, paper, and pastel chalk. The creation of this piece spanned over three months and involved more than five hundred hours of dedicated work.
