Dichotomy portrays the internal split within a single soul. Two profiles of the same figure facing opposite directions, connected yet divided by abstract geometric forms and smoky wisps. One face bears scars of past pain, the other sheds a single tear. Set against muted earth tones and atmospheric shadows, this piece explores the constant negotiation between our different selves: the one we show the world and the one we hide within. A meditation on internal conflict, healing, and the duality inherent in the human experience.
We all carry multiple versions of ourselves. The strong face we present to the world and the vulnerable one we keep hidden. Dichotomy emerged from my own journey of understanding how we negotiate these internal contradictions daily. The mirrored profiles represent the same person at different emotional states, connected by abstract pathways that symbolize the constant dialogue between our public and private selves.
The muted, earthy palette reflects the rawness of this internal struggle. There's no cosmic drama here, just the quiet weight of being human. The single teardrop and facial scars aren't signs of weakness but evidence of survival and ongoing transformation. The geometric shapes binding them together represent how our different selves are inextricably linked; we cannot separate one from the other without losing our wholeness.
This work asks viewers to recognize their own dichotomies—strength and vulnerability, joy and pain, past and present—and to understand that carrying contradictions doesn't make us broken; it makes us complete.
