In Seismiphants, I explore the profound, tactile dialogue between the elephant and the Earth. This 36x36 inch acrylic work captures a matriarch and her young standing in water, their massive feet acting as conduits for seismic vibrations. Through rhythmic brushwork and a focused composition, I highlight their unique ability to perceive messages through the ground. The piece serves as a visual meditation on environmental awareness, celebrating the innate intelligence and complex social bonds of these magnificent creatures.
My motivation for Seismiphants was to document the invisible, ancestral forces binding these magnificent creatures to the fabric of our planet. I have long been fascinated by seismic communication—the extraordinary way elephants "hear" the world through the foundation beneath their feet.
On this 36x36 inch canvas, I sought to move beyond a conventional wildlife portrait to explore a deep, sensory connection that remains unseen by the human eye.
Depicting the elephants in water allowed me to visualize these rhythmic ripples of information. I worked to capture the sheer weight and textured presence of their massive feet as they detect subtle signals and long-distance messages echoing through the Earth.
For me, this is a study in being—where the animal is not merely standing upon the land, but exists as a living extension of it. The inclusion of the young beside the matriarch represents the vital transmission of this ancient knowledge and the social bonds defining their survival.
Ultimately, this masterpiece is a meditation on awareness. It is my attempt to show that reality is far more intricate than what we perceive through our limited senses. By rendering these creatures with such intensity, I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the silent intelligence of nature.
I want the viewer to feel the rhythmic pull of the Earth and recognize the unseen threads of communication that bind these animals to their world and to one another.
