Artwork story

In Agwu, I translate the Igbo metaphysical concept of intuition and creation into a panoramic visual experience. Spanning a 2x4 foot canvas, the work features a central, poised figure flanked by cascading splashes of fiery red, luminous yellow, and piercing blue. These colors bleed into a gray void, representing the fluid bridge between the unseen spirit and visible reality. Through rhythmic patterns and high-contrast hues, I explore the ever-expanding nature of essence and the internal forces that shape our external world.

My motivation for painting Agwu was to give form to the Igbo spirit of perception and intuition—the sacred bridge that connects our inner knowing to our outer creation.

I wanted to explore the idea that we are not passive observers of reality, but active creators who weave our internal forces into the fabric of the seen world. This 2x4 foot canvas is my attempt to capture the moment of "becoming," where thought and spirit begin to manifest as physical form.

I chose a palette of fiery reds, luminous yellows, and piercing blues to represent the intense, flowing energy of the soul.

These cascading colours are meant to look like ripples, illustrating the concept that our essence is never fixed; it is alive and constantly expanding into its fullest expression.

By setting the central figure against a neutral background that seems to erupt with colour, I sought to show how the "inner artist" within all of us impacts the world around us.

Ultimately, this masterpiece is a personal testament to the truth that "as it is within, so it is without."

My goal was to create a work that encourages you to embrace your own Agwu—your unique intuition and creative spark.

Therefore, I painted this to serve as a powerful reminder that our reality is a direct reflection of the forces we carry inside, celebrating the beautiful, fluid process of bringing our inner truths into the light.
