Meet Spectacles of Life. This 36x36 inch canvas is all about the energy of a single, joyful moment. I used acrylics to bring out the glowing skin tones of the child and the messy, vibrant splashes of color on those oversized spectacles. The focus is tight and intentional, making the viewer feel like they’re right there in the middle of a play session. By layering bold stripes on the shirt and reflecting light in the eyes, I wanted to create a sense of movement and life that practically jumps off the wall. It’s a painting that doesn't just sit there; it smiles back at you.
I created "Spectacles of Life" to capture that raw, unfiltered wonder you only see in children. For a baby, the world isn't complicated yet—it’s just one big discovery after another.
I used the glasses as a metaphor for how we choose to look at the world. Those colorful splashes on the frames represent the joy and imagination we often lose as we get older.
My main motivation was to show that the life we experience is shaped entirely by how we see it. We spend so much time trying to fix or change the world around us, but sometimes the real shift happens when we change our own perspective.
I wanted this piece to be a loud, vibrant reminder that when you look through a lens of joy, everything around you starts to brighten up.
Painting this was a reminder to myself, too—that innocence and wonder aren't just for kids. They are things we can choose to put on every day. It’s about realizing that we don’t always need a different life; we just need a different pair of spectacles to see the beauty that’s already there.
