About the Artist
Full name: Anthony Joseph Ekanem Artist name: FRAYO ART
Anthony Joseph Ekanem, hails from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, began his artistic journey at the age of eight and was representing his primary school in art competitions by ten. Over the years, he has honed his skills, evolving from creating portraits of celebrities and politicians to addressing pressing social issues through his work.…
At twenty-four, Anthony recognized that art was his primary means of communication with society. He had the opportunity to present his drawings to notable figures, including Moses Bliss, William Troost Ekong, and Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio. However, he found that focusing solely on public figures limited his creative expression and hindered his ability to tackle real-life problems. This realization prompted a significant shift in his artistic approach.
Now, Anthony uses his art to freely express his thoughts and feelings, embracing a broader range of subjects that reflect his commitment to social commentary and problem-solving. This transformation marks a pivotal moment in his career, allowing him to pursue his dreams through his art and connect more deeply with his audience.
Artist statement: My artistic vision is to create expressive, realistic works that capture human emotion, inner struggle, and everyday life. Using strong light and shadow, rich textures, and traditional drawing tools, I focus on mood and meaning while keeping the human figure clear and recognizable.
