About the Artist
Full name: Ishaya victor Artist name: Ishaya Victor
Ishaya Victor is a multidisciplinary artist from Dukku, Rijau LGA, Niger State, Nigeria. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, in 2024.…
Ishaya explores a variety of themes, including personal experiences and socio-political narratives, alongside purely aesthetic expressions. His artistic practice encompasses impressionism, abstraction, and realism, showcasing a fluid approach to visual storytelling. He employs an array of materials, including found objects, waste materials, and fiberglass, to create rich, textural compositions that engage the senses and provoke thought.
Growing up in northern Nigeria, Ishaya has experienced a spectrum of human interactions, some joyful and others fraught with tension and conflict. These experiences have profoundly influenced his artistic expression. Through his exploration of the human form, both realistic and abstract, he seeks to recreate and reflect on these moments. His work often features unconventional materials such as scrap metal, wood, and, more recently, discarded cartons. By repurposing these materials, he breathes new life into what was once considered waste, drawing parallels to themes of resilience and transformation.
Artist statement: My practice focuses on material experimentation and conceptual inquiry. I primarily use recycled and found materials, transforming discarded objects into sculptural and mixed media forms that examine identity, silence, emotional endurance, and socio-environmental realities.
